John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei and Jonah Hill in Cyrus Trailer

I don’t know if this is the popular opinion, but I don’t think John C. Reilly is a funny person. At least not comedian funny. He’s at his best/funniest when he’s just a genuine, goofy guy that’s trying to do the right thing. So it looks like he’s getting back to that type of role in the dramedy CYRUS. Reilly plays a guy getting over a divorce that meets the woman of his dreams, only to have to deal with her weird, grown son. Marisa Tomei, Jonah Hill and Catherine Keener round out the cast. Jay and Mark Duplass are directing from a script they also wrote.
The trailer has a very familiar feel to it with a child coming between two adult lovers. Even reminds me of STEP BROTHERS, albeit with a much different tone. I also have to take exception to the title of the film. America only knows one Cyrus right now and that would be of the Miley variety.
