At long last, we finally make a breakthrough with the new Muppet movie. We knew Jason Segel had written a script and that Disney seemed on board with bringing the Muppets back, but things kind of died down for almost a year. Until now, when it was announced that ‘Flight of the Conchords’ creator James Bobin will be directing the next Muppets movie. It’s also to note that he turned down the Judd Apatow produced film BRIDESMAIDS to join the Muppet film.
I love Conchords, but I’m not ready to give Bobin too much credit. I think it’s easy to be a “creator” of something that practically created itself. I would also imagine that Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement make things a little easier. But just the fact that the Muppet movie has a director is exciting for me. Now they need to get Steve Martin involved somehow. I don’t know why, but I always think of Steve Martin with the Muppets.
