Penelope Cruz looking to sail with Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 4

It’s generally accepted that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley won’t be returning for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, so as expected, Disney is scouring the seven seas for some star power. Okay, I’m sorry, that was a bad pun. But the good news is that Ms. Penelope Cruz is now in negotiations to star with Johnny Depp in the sequel. Of course, details about the plot and Cruz’s character are being kept secret, but apparently she’ll be playing an equal/rival to Captain Jack Sparrow.
I think this is a good fit and Penelope adds a bit of culture to the franchise. I’m still disappointed they won’t be bringing back Knightley or Bloom, but I guess their storylines ended with the third installment. It’ll be interesting to see if the fourth film can continue the success of the first three. We’ll find out next Memorial Day.
