I’m a huge Steve Martin fan and I’ll watch anything he’s in, but he’s had a rough go lately when it comes to movies. Between the CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN and PINK PANTHER movies, the guy needs a box office hit in a bad way. Hopefully, he can find it with THE BIG YEAR. He’s starring with Owen Wilson and Jack Black as three bird watchers that try and outdo each other in a bird-watching competition as they try to spot the rarest birds in North America.
At first glance, you might be thinking that a movie about bird-watching will be lame and mind-numbingly boring. But the script is based off the book ‘The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession’ by Mark Obmascik and judging by the general regard for the book, it should turn out to be a funny film. Supposedly, the bird-watching is just a metaphor for the various stages the three guys are at in their life.
