Greta Gerwig joins Rusell Brand and Helen Mirren in the Arthur remake
Posted by: Brad Sturdivant
When I first posted the news that Russell Brand was going to be starring in the upcoming remake of ARTHUR, I mentioned that the most important role was going to be that of Linda Marolla, the role that Liza Minnelli made famous in the original. After an unusually long search, Warner Brothers has settled on Greta Gerwig. Gerwig is a relative unknown, bouncing around various indie films, but she most recently appeared with Ben Stiller in GREENBERG.
So the cast appears set, now we need director Jason Winer to deliver on the seemingly impossible task of making this watchable. I think Brand is going to do well in the role that Dudley Moore made famous, but the actual story of ARTHUR never appealed to me. Despite the two leads, I think the most valuable addition to the cast is Helen Mirren, who should do great as the nanny/valet that provides the advice.
