Jeremy Renner looking to join Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in The Avengers

This rumor has been going around for a while, or at least ever since Jeremy Renner started getting acclaim in THE HURT LOCKER, but it looks like the rumor might be a reality as it’s being reported he will accept the role of Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye. We of course don’t know how Hawkeye will be portrayed in director Joss Whedon’s film, but it’s believed he will have more of a supporting role. In the comics, Hawkeye was kind of a villain originally and then later joined the team as a good guy. Already confirmed for the film are Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

This is easily the type of role that fans will want more of, so if done properly, I could definitely see it segue into its own film. Renner has the acting chops to pull off just about anything, so this should be a fun role for him.
