John Lithgow and Freida Pinto join James Franco in Rise of the Apes

With all the sequels and prequels coming out this year and next, it’s easy to get them confused and to pass them off as further examples of Hollywood’s inability to grasp originality.  But one prequel I’m actually looking forward to is RISE OF THE APES.  The Apes movies have suffered from many bad sequels, but the idea of going back and looking at how it all got started is a good idea and one I think will work well on film.  The new movie has added a couple of more cast members to join James Franco.  John Lithgow will play is father, who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s and Freida Pinto will play a primatologist.

The question I have for the film is how are they going to get from a scientist doing experiments to an earth controlled by apes in two hours?  Because we’re going to want to get to the apes pretty quickly, so they can’t spend too much time on the science behind the takeover.
