I was excited when it was first announced Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to comedy in DUE DATE. Then I was even more excited when I learned he’d be teaming up with Zach Galifianakis and director Todd Phillips, who has a streak of hilarious movies with THE HANGOVER and OLD SCHOOL. So I was anxious to see the first trailer and I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed. I don’t think I laughed once and overall it looks like it tries a little too hard. I also feel the odd-couple-on-a-road-trip schtick has been done too many times before. With all of that said, RDJ is still great and I’ll try to keep a positive outlook on this one in hopes the finished product will be better.
The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, Danny McBride, Michelle Monaghan, Jamie Foxx, Alan Arkin and Juliet Lewis. It’s about an expectant father (Downey) that’s racing to get home to see the birth of his child, only to pick up a passenger (Galifianakis) who makes the trip more eventful than it should be. DUE DATE hits theaters on November 5th. Watch the trailer here.
