Amy Adams is now set to play Janis Joplin for Fernando Meirelles

Over the years, many, many attempts have been made to make a Janis Joplin biopic. So when a project gestates so long, especially one as high profile as this, every actress in Hollywood will be attached to it at some point. Renee Zellweger was the popular choice for a few years, then there were rumors that Pink (yes, Pink) came in and wowed everyone during a screen test. But now, it looks like Amy Adams is going to play the troubled singer and Fernando Meirelles will be directing. However, keep in mind that right now the film has no funding and no studio, so there’s still a long way to go.
Producer Wyck Godfrey is the source of this latest buzz and if he’s planning on throwing some money into the project, then at least we have a sign something will happen. I like Amy Adams, but Janis Joplin was not a pretty woman and Adams has too detailed and refined features, so I don’t see much of a resemblance. But the lady can act, so that’s really what you need in a Joplin biopic.
