Channing Tatum and Stephen Sommers circling the G.I. Joe sequel
Posted by: Brad Sturdivant
I know a lot of people that were upset with how bad G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA was, mainly because they were so attached to the action figures of their childhood. Although I was as big a fan of the figures as they come, I can’t say I was upset at how bad it was. Truth be told, I expected it to be worse. With Stephen Sommers and “power suits”, I knew it wasn’t going to be great. But the film made some serious dough worldwide and chances are good the sequel will do just as well, especially if released at the end of August as to avoid competition. It seems that Paramount agrees with me and they are moving full steam ahead on a sequel. ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are already writing the sequel.
Early reports indicate that Stephen Sommers will return to direct and Channing Tatum will once again star as Duke. No word yet on what other characters will show up, but I have to assume Brendan Frasier’s character will have a bigger role, as will Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his Cobra Commander.
