Sharktopus starring Eric Roberts coming to Blu-ray

Anchor Bay has announced that the creature feature that aired on the SyFy channel SHARKTOPUS, starring Eric Roberts and Roger Corman, will be released on Blu-ray March 15, 2011.  The film follows a scientist who creates a half shark and half octopus creature to be used as a weapon for the Navy, but then it escapes and it stalks the deep blue seas by Mexico. This film was directed by Declan O’Brien and sadly never made it to theaters.

Call me crazy, but I’m kinda loving this resurgence of creature features!  I was one of the hundred people who grabbed a copy of MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS, and although it was pretty terrible, it was pretty darn fun too.  So I will also be picking up this SyFy film to add to my collection (much to the dismay of my husband).  I was really hoping that with big creature blockbusters like ANACONDA and DEEP BLUE SEA, Hollywood would jump back on the creature films, but sadly this genre has been reduced back to late night B-movie status and spoofs like VAMPIRES SUCK still make money at the box office. Sometimes there is no justice in the world.

The only special feature for SHARKTOPUS an audio commentary with Roger Corman.
