Stephen Sommers not directing G.I. Joe sequel

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

After everyone thought Stephen Sommers would come back and direct the sequel to the 2009 film G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, reports have come in that he’s become unattached to the film. Everyone is keeping mum as to the reasons for his leaving as there hasn’t been any comments from Sommers or the studio.  Back in 2009 a lot of critics tore apart the film based on the popular kids show/action figures and Paramount was so worried about bad reviews they didn’t even screen it to the press beforehand.  There isn’t any indication that this is why Sommers won’t be helming the sequel, but you never know. No other directors have been attached to the upcoming sequel, and really we don’t even know when or if a sequel will come into play.

As of now, Stephen Sommers is hard at work on a reboot of TARZAN so look for more news about that in the next couple of months.
