Summit Entertainment will make The Night Circus

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

Summit Entertainment has just acquired the rights to adapt the novel The Night Circus, which will be released in the U.S. on September 13, 2011. The novel was written by Erin Morgenstern and follows two young magicians in the 19th century. These young prodigies have a rival that was passed down from their fathers and they perform in a magical circus that was created just for their competition. Their lives start to become complicated when the young man and young woman start to fall for each other.  This novel was one of the hottest at the 2010 Frankfurt Book Fair.  No directors or screenwriters have yet to be attached but look for more to news to come down the pipeline in the next couple of months.

There must be some supernatural magic happening in Hollywood because there has been a serious influx in fantasy films.  From the TWILIGHT franchise to THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE and even THE LAST EXORCISM, we’ve had quite a few films fall into this genre the last couple of years. Not that I’m complaining, just making an observation.
