Ed Westwick joins Leonardo DiCaprio in J. Edgar while Charlize Theron passes

The casting news for J. EDGAR keeps rolling in, this time with word that ‘Gossip Girl’s’ Ed Westwick has landed a major supporting role in the J. Edgar Hoover biopic as a young operative that was asked to write his biography. Of course, when he gets a little too close, Hoover has second thoughts. This is hot on the heels of the news that the long rumored involvement of Charlize Theron is officially over since the actress has turned the film down to focus on other films. Clint Eastwood is said to be eying Naomi Watts or Amy Adams for the vacant role.

So far, we have Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role with Judi Dench, Armie Hammer and Damon Herriman in the Clint Eastwood directed film. I’m confused that Theron would turn this down since it seems like it has been a while since she’s had a juicy leading role in a film of this scale.
