Noomi Rapace and maybe Angelina Jolie will star in formerly known Alien prequel from Ridley Scott

The idea of a prequel to the 1970’s film ALIEN has been tossed around a lot recently and today we have confirmation that it is dead (in a sense) and has been transformed into a film entitled PROMETHEUS. The film will still be directed by Ridley Scott and he has described it as so:
While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.
Sounds incredibly enticing but not as enticing as this next piece of news. Noomi Rapace has landed a coveted role in the film as scientist Elizabeth Shaw which she won because Mr. Scott was so impressed by her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish version of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. I’ll bet she thanks her lucky stars everyday for that role. There is one more major role to be had in PROMETHEUS and that is the female lead named Vickers. A couple of big A-list actresses named Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are circling that role, and when we know who wins we’ll let you know.
PROMETHEUS is set to hit theaters March 9th, 2012.
