Lee Byung-hun will return as Storm Shadow in G.I. Joe sequel

It appears that the pieces are (very) slowly falling into place for the sequel to 2009’s summer blockbuster G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA. We already found out that Stephen Sommers will not be returning as director, we’re not sure if Channing Tatum will be back, but we do know that Lee Byung-hun will be reprising his role as Storm Shadow. The actor has agreed to come back and play the white outfitted ninja who was one of the bad guys (please forgive me for not knowing my G.I. Joe characters). The sequel will be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote ZOMBIELAND and filming is supposed to start shooting in June with a 2012 scheduled release. And really, that’s all the news we have right now.

The reviews were mixed when the first film came out, but it’s not surprising that the studio would push forward with a sequel.  But how well do they think it’ll do if they don’t have some more of the returning characters?
