Harvey Weinstein may re-edit The King's Speech

What?! After a whopping twelve Academy Award nominations yesterday, Harvey Weinstein has decided that it might be a good idea to re-edit THE KING’S SPEECH in order to reach a broader audience. Currently the film is R-rated (for the excessive use of the f-word I’m assuming) and he wants to edit it down to make it PG-13 or even PG. In a statement Mr. Weinstein says:
The British numbers are huge because the rating lets families see the movie together. Tom (Hooper) and I are trying to find a unique way to do this that keeps his vision of the movie.
On one hand I could see where you would want to broaden your audience, but let’s be serious. How many kids under the age of sixteen would go see a film like this anyway (we’re talking average teenagers, not teenage film buffs). I just think it’s a bad idea to do this, especially after you were just recognized for putting out such a great film. I’m not sure it would have gotten as many nominations if it were PG-13 to begin with, what do you think?
