John Travolta in negotiations to play mob boss John Gotti

John Travolta is in serious negotiations to play mob boss John Gotti in the upcoming film GOTTI which will be about three generations of the Gotti crime family, according to producer Marc Fiore. He says:

We would love to have him. He’s a terrific actor. John Gotti, Sr. — he’s an icon. And so is Travolta … The Gottis have an image already. People know who they are. You can’t just be a good actor, you have to be a great actor who can become John Gotti.

Right now Fiore is trying to secure director Nick Cassavetes for the film which he wants to start shooting sometime this year. Not only do they want John Travolta to be Gotti, Sr., they are looking at several A-list actors to portray Gotti, Jr. including recent Oscar nominee James Franco. Expect this to be a true representation of the crime family, as Fiore is working directly with the real Gotti family who have signed on as consultants for the film.

I would love to see John Travolta do something that is worthy of his talent. I’m still upset he did WILD HOGS and OLD DOGS, I can’t even try to defend him when these films are mentioned. We’ll have to see how this plays out, but for now I’m intrigued.
