Javier Bardem offered lead role in The Dark Tower

Late yesterday we reported that Christian Bale was now in the running to portray the lead, Roland Deschain, in THE DARK TOWER films (which has been adapted from the Stephen King novels) but now we learn that an official offer is out to Javier Bardem. Apparently Ron Howard and Universal Studios have contacted Bardem and want him to play the role that will span three films as well as a television series. Since Bardem is coming off an Oscar nomination for his role in BIUTIFUL he will probably have his pick of films, and quite frankly, this is one big film(s). According to Howard and Akiva Goldsman (who is the screenwriter for the first film) they want this to be the next LORD OF THE RING TRILOGY. That seems a bit ambitious but if anyone could do it, it would be Ron Howard.
Look for THE DARK TOWER saga to begin in 2013. I’m thinking the film will open in the summer and then the television series will air that fall, but I’m just guessing.
