Is Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby going to be scrapped?

One of the big projects that has been simmering on the back burner is Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of THE GREAT GATSBY. So many great actors and actresses have been attached or interested because they know that Mr. Luhrmann’s visions are grand and beautiful and surely a joy to participate in. However, it may not happen at all. In a recent interview at the Directors Guild of America Awards show, he alluded that the film might not be going forward at all. He says:
I gotta make a decision in three days’ time… [about] whether to do it or not…[I’ve]been workshopping with Leonardo [DiCaprio] and Tobey [Maguire] and all those great guys…I think I’ve been a bit shaded out because I want everything to be perfectly positioned on it…There will be news by the end of the week.
Gasp! No! I love Baz Luhrmann and this breaks my heart a little, although I gotta respect that if he can’t do it his own way then he won’t do it at all. The guy has only directed four movies in his entire career, so it’s safe to say he’s choosy about what he does. Guess we’ll let you know how this plays out soon.
