James Franco in and Johnny Depp is out for Oz film

Sam Raimi’s film OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL has been undergoing some serious casting changes. First Robert Downey, Jr. was attached to star as the young wizard with an over-the-top flair who is swept away on his hot air balloon to the land of Oz. He dropped out and then Johnny Depp was the one to take over. Now he’s dropped out and the next in line is James Franco. He’s still in early talks, but if you’ve been following the news at all you know he is a hot commodity. This would also be a re-teaming with director Sam Raimi, whom he worked with on the SPIDER-MAN films (the good ones back in the day). Like we said, it’s not confirmed but it is most likely Franco’s to accept or decline and we’ll let you know as soon as he does.
You can catch Academy Award nominee and host James Franco on Oscar night which is February 27, 2011.
