Johnny Depp pulls out of Pancho Villa film

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

It appears that Johnny Depp has officially pulled out of director Emir Kusturica’s film THE SEVEN FRIENDS OF PANCHO VILLA AND THE WOMAN WITH SEVEN FINGERS. (On a side note, titles that tend to go on for so long that no one remembers them don’t tend to do well at the box office.) Anyway, Depp is out but Benicio Del Toro and Gael Garcia Bernal are in the lead to take over Depp’s role and Salma Hayek is still reportedly attached. The film is based on the book “The Friends of Pancho Villa” by James Carlos Blake and this is how it’s described:

Killers of men and lovers of life, they fought for freedom. For the Revolucion. For Villa. In return, they received a soldier’s highest honor. They shared life–and death–with the mightiest hero in all of Mexico.

Either Garcia Bernal or Del Toro should be good substitutions for Depp so the film should still go off without a hitch. No official word on when shooting will begin.
