Viggo Mortensen may play General Zod in Superman reboot

As fast as you could say “Holy Kryptonite!” casting is being put into place for the upcoming SUPERMAN reboot from director Zack Snyder. Earlier this week we found out that Kevin Costner was circling a role that we speculated was of Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent’s father, (we were so right, that is the role he’s up for) and now we learn the villain will be General Zod and Viggo Mortensen is who the studio wants to play the General. Now, Mortensen isn’t confirmed as he’s quite busy with other projects (remember he’s working on SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron), but he is a “person of interest” as is Costner. According to sources neither one of them are the only actors being considered. So we’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. Also keep in mind that this film is being produced by Christopher Nolan, so that’s another incentive for any actors that may be wavering.

For those not completely up to speed with their Superman mythology, General Zod is from the same planet as Superman and has been one of the Man of Steel’s longtime adversaries in the comics and film. In fact, you may remember that Terrence Stamp portrayed him back in the 1980’s in SUPERMAN II. I personally think Mortensen would be a good choice, and would like to see that.
