Zac Efron's Charlie Countryman gets a director

The formerly titled THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN (now shortened to CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN) starring Zac Efron, has secured a director in Frederik Bond who is making his feature length film directorial debut. The former commercial director has been waiting for this opportunity as several of his other projects (YEAR 12 and THE HOST remake) fell through, now he’s getting ready to team up with one of America’s favorite young stars in Efton. The film follows a young guy who goes to Europe to cope with his mother’s recent death. There he meets a young girl who has already been “claimed” by a mob boss, but Charlie Countryman continues to woo her even while enduring several beatings. The script was written by Matt Drake and has no set shooting schedule right now.
I’m very interested to see how dark comedy plays out, although it doesn’t sound like it turns out too well for Charlie Countryman, as shown by the previous title.
