Pirates of the Caribbean actor Ian McShane joins Jack the Giant Killer

Ian McShane, who will play Blackbeard in the upcoming film PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, has signed on to star in the Bryan Singer fairy tale adaptation JACK THE GIANT KILLER. The veteran actor will take on the role of King Brahmwell whose daughter (Eleanor Tomlinson) gets kidnapped by giants and must be rescued by a local farm boy (Nicholas Hoult) in order to maintain peace between the humans and giants. Other actors in the film include: Stanley Tucci who will play a sinister adviser to the king as well as Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy and John Kassir. Shooting is supposed to start sometime this month and there is still no release date.
I’m glad to see Mr. McShane doing some larger roles since his excellent stint on HBO’s DEADWOOD, hopefully his role in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES will give him some more exposure so studios can see he’s more than just a good narrator/voice talent (although I do love his voice work).
