Hugh Jackman's Real Steel already has a sequel in the works

Even though the robot boxing film starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie has yet to hit theaters, DreamWorks is already working on the script for the sequel. The studio has screenwriter John Gatins hard at work on a sequel, presumably because Hugh Jackman is not yet committed to any project for awhile now that THE WOLVERINE has dropped to the wayside due to the disaster in Japan and exit of director Darren Aronofsky. That and REAL STEEL was fairly well received at CinemaCon and you know how studios are when they think there’s more money to be made from a franchise. No word on what the second film will be about or even if Jackman and director Shawn Levy would return, but if you love fighting robots, take heart because there is probably more of that on the horizon.
REAL STEEL opens in theaters this coming October 7, 2011.
