Sally Field will join Daniel Day-Lewis in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln

Steven Spielberg’s next film LINCOLN has just added Sally Field to the cast. Ms. Field is set to play Mary Todd Lincoln, the wife to the 16th President Abraham Lincoln which will be played by Daniel Day-Lewis. Spielberg had nothing but nice things to say about Field stating,”I’m excited to be working with Sally for the first time. I’ve admired her films and she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.” The film is supposedly going to be focusing on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War as well as the conflict between Lincoln and the members of his cabinet. Filming is supposed to start sometime this fall with a release sometime at the end of 2012.

I love Steven Spielberg and I love Daniel Day-Lewis so obviously I’m excited about this film, but what I want to know is why all the emphasis on Lincoln all the sudden? This is at least the third film that focuses on this particular president (ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, THE CONSPIRATOR and now this one), Hollywood is sometimes a strange machine.
