Rachel Weisz will join James Franco and Mila Kunis in Oz The Great and Powerful

Veteran actress Rachel Weisz appears to have boarded the upcoming prequel OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL which will be directed by Sam Raimi. It’s funny how this worked out as Raimi originally wanted Hillary Swank to portray the role of the older wicked sister witch who tries to bring her younger sibling (Mila Kunis) to the dark side and rule the land, while the studio wanted Michelle Williams to play this role. Turns out they agreed on Rachel Weisz who you could really look at as a combination between the two, but if you ask me is a better deal than either of them. Shooting is scheduled to start this coming July with a release sometime in 2012.

Rachel Weisz is a great choice for this role and I do believe she will make this film so much better, just adding her to the cast ups the credibility in my opinion. I’m going to be interested to see how this thing progresses and really I can’t wait to see a trailer (which I’m sure will come out around this time next year).
