Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones and John Hawkes join Steven Spielberg's Lincoln

We’ve been hearing about Steven Spielberg’s planned LINCOLN biopic for years and even when it was revealed that Daniel Day-Lewis was going to play Honest Abe, I was still skeptical it would ever see the light of day. But then it was announced that Sally Field would be playing Mary Todd and I started to believe it would really happen. Now there’s no doubt as a slew of actors have joined the film, including Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, Joseph Cross, David Costabile, Byron Jennings, Dakin Matthews, Boris McGiver, Gloria Reuben, Jeremy Strong and David Warshofsky. Jones will play Thaddeus Stevens, a Republican senator that opposed slavery and Levitt will play Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son of Abe. The other actors will fill various supporting roles.
So it looks like the Bearded One has assembled a mighty task to take on the mighty subject of Abraham Lincoln. I’m curious as to how Senor Spielbergo will handle the drama after the assassination since Robert Redford already covered it in THE CONSPIRATOR. But it’s Spielberg, so I’m confident this will be an incredible film, which should be ready in time for the 2012 Oscar season.
