Will Smith looking for a dream pairing with Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

While others scoffed at the idea, I squealed like a little girl when I read that Brad Pitt had been cast in Quentin Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.  QT is a genius when it comes to getting the most from his actors, so pairing him with one of the biggest A-listers out there was a sure-fire way to achieve excellence.  So it’s with equal excitement that we hear of none other than Will Smith is in early talks to take the lead in QT’s next film DJANGO UNCHAINED.  If everything aligns perfectly, Big Willie would play the lead character of Django, who teams up with a German bounty hunter (to be played by Christoph Waltz) to free his slave wife from an evil plantation owner.

Now, as great as QT is, there’s caution written all over this film given it’s subject matter.  QT has gone on record as saying he’s going to do to the old Southern slave owners what he did to the Nazi’s.  The script has a lot of foul and sensitive language throughout (the early script had the n-word used incessantly) and is about as non-mainstream as they come.  So this would be a welcomed departure for Mr. Smith, who generally chooses blockbuster-friendly roles.  But the combination of Will Smith’s star power and Tarantino’s directing and writing ability is enough to get any movie fan excited.
