Liam Hemsworth will go AWOL after The Hunger Games

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

With THE HUNGER GAMES expected to reach Twilight-like success, it’s not too early for Hollywood to start signing up the cast to future movie deals.  Jennifer Lawrence has already started to capitalize on the publicity by signing on for the drama SWEET TEA and now Liam Hemsworth has signed on to the indie drama AWOL.  As you might have guessed from the title, AWOL is a Vietnam-era drama that explores the anti-war sentiment at the University of Michigan at the time.  Along with Hemsworth, the film is looking at Teresa Palmer, Austin Stowell, Aimee Teegarden, Chris Lowell, and Max Adler to star.   The film will be directed by first time director Danny Mooney.

Jim Burnstein (D3: THE MIGHTY DUCKS) and Garrett K. Schiff are writing the script and I’m hoping they can write it in a way that’s not completely one-sided.  Anti-war movies can have a tendency to paint protestors and soldiers in a very stereotypical fashion, which can derail a decent movie.  No start date or release date has been announced.
