Wong Kar-Wai releases first trailer for The Grandmasters

Next year director Wong Kar-Wai will be releasing the film THE GRANDMASTERS, which is the story of martial-arts master Ip Man, the guy who trained Bruce Lee. The film stars Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Zhang Ziyi and boasts the clever tagline, “In Martial Arts there is no right or wrong, only the last man standing.” That little line pretty much sums up this entire teaser trailer which is featured below.
I’m pretty sure this film flew across my radar several times in the last month, but watching the trailer has made a lasting impression. After viewing this little clip, I was reminded of my favorite scene in cinema history. In the 2002 Sam Mendes film ROAD TO PERDITION, there is a shoot-out scene that was shot in the rain and is actually portrayed on the poster. It was so intense and dramatic, but extremely poetic at the same time. THE GRANDMASTERS totally brought me back to that moment, only with a lot more violence.
