J.J. Abrams is finally getting a move on writing and helming Star Trek 2

Was I not just complaining at STAR TREK 2 yesterday? Now that SUPER 8 is out of the way, J.J. Abrams is left with some time in his schedule.

What will he work on now? The TREK sequel of course. He’s finally decided to commit himself to the project, no more excuses. The release date of June 29, 2012 will have to be changed, but at least he can’t push it back any further. Abrams is currently working with writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof on the script. It’s possible that production will begin in January and be release in late 2012 or spring of 2013.

The cast is in place and will be ready with Abrams in. Chris Pine will return to playing Captain Kirk before he gets a chance to take on the role of Jack Ryan. Now that’s the project that’s going to be pushed back forever. I really like Pine as a personality and actor so it will be cool to see what he brings to Ryan.
