The Expendables 2 may gain John Travolta and Chuck Norris, but may lose Jet Li

There have been many rumors surrounding the upcoming sequel THE EXPENDABLES 2, and this could just be another one to add to the mix, but I’ll let you decide for yourself. According to David Varod (who is the CEO of NU Boyana studios which is where the project will be filmed) the list of action stars who will return are: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme (who will actually be new) with additions to the cast possibly including John Travolta and Chuck Norris. First off, notice that Jet Li’s name is nowhere in this list, if you saw the first film then you’ll know that he was pretty much underutilized throughout the entire movie. Maybe he will return, but I hope he doesn’t because they will probably just use him for another cheap laugh.
Now let’s move onto John Travolta and Chuck Norris. I love John Travolta and think he’s an awesome actor, but I definitely don’t consider him an action star. I’m a little confused as to why they would include him, but maybe they just wanted another big name to fill the marquee. As for Chuck Norris, he seems like an obvious choice to add to a cast like this but I don’t know how well he’ll be able to play with others. He seems like a lone wolf, but maybe Sly will find some use for him.
THE EXPENDABLES 2 will be directed by Simon West and is set to hit theaters on August 17, 2012. That’s really not terribly far off, so we should have some of these rumors cleared up in a month or so.
