Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk may helm Thor 2 with Chris Hemsworth

The sequel to this summer’s comic film THOR is moving forward and currently (and cleverly) entitled THOR 2. Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios are in the process of finding a director to take on the film and it looks like they may have found one. Brian Kirk is talks to take on the next installment which is set for a tentative release on July 26, 2013. Kirk is most known for directing episodes in several television series that include: Game of Thrones, Dexter, Boardwalk Empire and Luther. This isn’t Kirk’s first foray into full-length feature films, as he did direct Matthew Macfadyen (THE THREE MUSKETEERS) in a film called MIDDLETON that was released in Ireland in 2006. However, THOR 2 will be his first tentpole film in Hollywood, and it’ll be interesting to see how he approaches the next installment for the god of thunder.
THOR 2 will be written by Don Payne and Chris Hemsworth will be returning to reprise his role.
