Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly and Christoph Waltz in the Carnage trailer

Although all of Roman Polanski’s films have some sort of humorous undertones, I can’t say the idea of him making a comedy-drama (as opposed to a drama-comedy) called CARNAGE enticed me in the least. But with an amazing cast that includes Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly, my interest is at least peaked. The film is set in New York and follows two sets of parents (one played by Foster and Reilly, the other by Waltz and Winslet) that meet after their kids get into a fight at school. The fighting kids leads turn out to be the catalyst to unleash a slew of other marital problems, each with comedic benefits.
There are so many things I love about this trailer, that it’s hard to list them all. But I’ll start with the idea of getting four great actors and locking them in a single apartment living room for 2 hours, and then giving them some great dialogue. We don’t get dialogue, single setting movies like this anymore and if the Academy had more of a sense of humor, I’d say some of these four would get Oscar nominations. Let’s hope we didn’t see all the best parts in the trailer. CARNAGE hits theaters on December 16th.
