Nick Nolte joins Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in Gangster Squad

Ruben Fleischer’s period gangster film GANGSTER SQUAD is assembling one heck of a cast. So far, he has Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi, Holt McCallany, Frank Grillo and Robert Patrick (Emma Stone being one of the lone female cast members). Well, you can add Nick Nolte to that male powerhouse cast. Nolte will play Bill parker, the new chief of police that puts together the police squad that takes on the notorious gangster Mickey Cohen (Penn). The cast is exciting, but all too often when we see a cast this big, full of major Hollywood players, it ends up being too big and therefore, certain characters get left behind. But even with that risk, the story of the 1940’s LA police squad going after the mob should make for a great movie.
It’s nice to have Nick Nolte back in film. He gave a great turn as the dad in WARRIOR and has a couple of more projects on the horizon. GANGSTER SQUAD will start shooting in September for a release in 2012.
