Brad Pitt set to produce Ryan Murphy's The Normal Heart, starring Mark Ruffalo

These days, Ryan Murphy is best known for being the mastermind behind the television sensation ‘Glee’, but you may have forgotten he directed a decent little film called RUNNING WITH SCISSORS back in 2006. So his jumping back into the film directing game shouldn’t come as a surprise, even if last year’s EAT, PRAY, LOVE was disappointing. Next up for the director is a film called THE NORMAL HEART, which is based off the semi-autobiographical play by Larry Kramer. The story centers on an activist in 1980’s New York that fights to increase the awareness of HIV/AIDS in the city. The film has heavy doses of “sexual politics” (note: I don’t know what that means).
Mark Ruffalo has been attached to play the male lead for a while now and Murphy has publicly said he wants to reteam with Julia Roberts on the film, but as of now, she has yet to commit. But Murphy got a big push today when Brad Pitt’s Plan B productions picked up the project. As you probably know, Pitt and Roberts have worked together several times (THE MEXICAN, OCEAN’S 11).
