Matt Damon wants nothing to do with Jeremy Renner and Tony Gilroy's The Bourne Legacy

I’ve written several stories about the upcoming Bourne reboot-prequel-sequel-lateral film THE BOURNE LEGACY and in each post, I take a potshot at Jeremy Renner and Universal.  Now, we hear from Jason Bourne himself, Matt Damon on whether or not he’s going to grace us with a quick cameo in next summer’s film.  The answer?  No.  As Damon recently said in an interview with MTV when questioned about his involvement and some of the details: “No, I have no idea about any of it… no, no [you won’t see me in the background of the new one]. He’s got a whole other thing that they’re doing and I wish them well and Tony [Gilroy’s] really smart. I’m sure they’re going to be great.  All I know is that it doesn’t preclude Paul [Greengrass] and me from doing another one of ours”.

Obviously, Damon is not an idiot and so he took the high road and was pretty gracious and understanding when questioned about the film.  He stuck by Paul Greengrass after Universal kicked him off the fourth film and it seems like he’s still willing to come back and do another one if everything works out.  As for the reboot starring Jeremy Renner (not as Bourne, but as a different spy), Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz and directed by Tony Gilroy, it hits theaters on August 3rd, 2012.
