Rooney Mara could join Josh Brolin in Spike Lee's Oldboy remake

It seems almost silly at this point to report when studios or directors want Rooney Mara to star in their film. With THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO a mere three months away and early buzz on the film through the roof, Mara is already one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood and her breakout film hasn’t even been released yet. But that’s not stopping the phone calls and the latest director and studio to come calling is Spike Lee and Mandate Pictures. If they get their way, Rooney Mara will star alongside the already announced Josh Brolin in his English language remake of OLDBOY. However, take this with a grain of salt at this point as there’s no confirmation that an offer has been made or that Mara is even interested.
With that in mind, I will say that her involvement would instantly make this film more appealing to me. I’m cautious about Spike Lee taking on OLDBOY since I thought the original was so fantastic. I’m also skeptical about how close they’ll follow the original (mainly the twist ending), or if they’ll follow the original Japanese book. Screenwriter Mark Protosevich is said to be using both for inspiration, but we’ll have to wait and see for the final product.
