Speculation has been running rampant on what the next Bond film would be called, who would star in it and who would end up directing it. We knew who was rumored and who was attached, but with the bankruptcy impacting operations at MGM, no one was sure when the next Bond film would get made. But today, MGM held a press event to celebrate the announcement of production on Bond 23, which is now officially titled SKYFALL. They even revealed some details on the film, pointing out that SKYFALL will be a standalone film and will have nothing to do with CASINO ROYALE or QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Shortly after, their Twitter account (@007), revealed a semi-synopsis “Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”
Along with that, they confirmed Sam Mendes will be directing and that Daniel Craig, Judi Dench (making her seventh Bond appearance), Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Berenice Malohe, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Albert Finney will be starring. Production starts today and SKYFALL will hit theaters on November 9th, 2012.
