Lionsgate wants more Twilight, but will Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart follow?

For those that haven’t been following the business news of the movie business lately, then the big news of the past week was that Lionsgate bought Summit for $412 million. Summit has had a string of big movies, but none of them are bigger than the Twilight franchise, which now belongs to Lionsgate. Not that Summit was always about the art, but now that they’re part of Lionsgate, it will now be more about the money than ever before (Summit was privately held, Lionsgate is publicly traded). And the best way to make money after you blow $400 million is to milk the Twilight Franchise for all its worth.
While answering questions about his new toy, Lionsgate head Jon Feltheimer said: “I’m anticipating ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office, it’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value. It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is ‘Boy I hope so.’ “
As you probably know, Stephenie Meyer stopped the franchise after Breaking Dawn, so the decision would have to be made to either throw a ton of money at her or move on without her. But the biggest question is whether or not they can get Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner back for more action. It seemed that all of them were relieved to finally have the Twilight series behind them. With that said, the big three could be in line for more than $20 million a piece and that kind of money has a way of convincing people to do things. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I would expect to hear more about this in the coming months, especially in the weeks leading up to the release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 2 in November.
