Even though I’ve loved all of Joe Wright’s films so far, I left off ANNA KARENINA from my list of most anticipated movies in 2012 because I had little interest in another costume drama, especially one that we’ve seen a few times on film before. However, that was before news broke that the film is going to be anything but conventional. It turns out that Wright is filming nearly the entire film on a single stage, with toys and other props standing in for set pieces (I’m thinking something like Lars von Trier’s DOGVILLE). This should give Wright plenty of opportunities to play with his love of the long, extended shot, which he nearly perfected in ATONEMENT. Below we get some screenshots from the film, courtesy of Empire magazine.
ANNA KARENINA stars Keira Kinghtley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Matthew Macfadyen, Olivia Williams and Ruth Wilson. The film hits theaters this Fall.
