Billy Connolly signs on to join Martin Freeman in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit
A very late casting announcement came out today for Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT films, with Scottish funnyman Billy Connolly signing on to play the Dwarf cousin of Thorin Oakenshield, Dain Ironfoot. Ironfoot pops up during the battle of the Five Armies, so I doubt we’ll see Connolly in the first film. Most people will remember Connolly as the father in THE BOONDOCK SAINTS films, but for me, he’ll always be the teacher that replaced Howard Hesseman in ‘Head of the Class’. I always thought he did a good job in the role.
The Hobbit films star Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Fry, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Brett McKenzie, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Ian Holm,Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans and Cate Blanchett. THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY and part 2, THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN, open on December 14th, 2012 and December 13th, 2013 respectively.
