Total Recall trailer: Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale make you forget this is a remake

Total Recall trailer, starring Colin Farrell

I know what you’re thinking; you’re thinking that TOTAL RECALL is another lame remake from Hollywood and we should all be upset with the very idea that remaking a film that was made in 1990.  But the first trailer for TOTAL RECALL gives us something we weren’t expecting; hope.  And maybe it was the shiny special effects or the overabundance of CGI, but the trailer held my attention and at least got me curious to see the final film.  I haven’t seen the original Arnold Schwarzenegger film in years, but the trailer didn’t remind me too much of the original TOTAL RECALL.  Director Len Wiseman has a tendency to film bland action, but I think TOTAL RECALL will be eventful enough to make for a good time at the theater.

In the distant future of TOTAL RECALL, Colin Farrell stars as Doug Quaid, a man depressed with his lot in life and looking to make a change.  So he experiments with a place that specializes in making your dreams come true, albeit in a fantastical manner.  But the fantasy that Quaid thought he was getting turns out to be a nightmare as he struggles to make sense of what is real and what is not.  But as you can imagine, this simple explanation is pretty much what is covered in the original trailer and if you’ve seen the original film or read Philip K. Dick’s short story ‘We Can Remember It For You Wholesale’ (which both TOTAL RECALL films are based on), then you know the story gets complicated pretty quickly.

Len Wiseman (UNDERWORLD, and Kate Beckinsale’s husband) is directing the reboot/remake and he has an impressive cast to work with, including Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy, John Cho and Bryan Cranston.  TOTAL RECALL is set to hit theaters later in the summer on August 3rd, 2012.
