Rooney Mara will replace Carey Mulligan in upcoming Spike Jonze film

Rooney Mara

Spike Jonze (WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE) has been hard at work on his next project and it seems that one of his female leads has left and is in the process of being replaced. Carey Mulligan, who was initially attached to the untitled romance, has backed out due to scheduling conflicts and will most likely be replaced with Rooney Mara of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO fame. Rooney Mara would join Samantha Morton, Amy Adams and Joaquin Phoenix.

The presently untitled film from Spike Jonze has no set release date and most of the details are being kept secret. All we know is that the film is about a man who falls in love with the voice of a computer. We can only assume that Joaquin Phoenix will play and man, but no word on how Rooney Mara will be involved at this time. Chances are good we’ll see this film sometime next year.

I know there has been a lot of hype about Rooney Mara’s portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (directed by David Fincher), but I was a little underwhelmed by the performance. Not that Rooney Mara wasn’t good, I just didn’t think she was as good as Noomi Rapace in the original Swedish version. With that said, I thought Rooney Mara really shone in her small part in THE SOCIAL NETWORK (also directed by David Fincher) and I look forward to catching her performances in the upcoming films LAWLESS with director Terrence Malick and THE BTTER PILL with director Steven Soderbergh. Rooney Mara seems to be collaborating all the big shot directors in Hollywood, she just needs to add Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola to her list of directors worked with and then she can retire. Well, maybe she can retire after she works with all those directors and gets an Oscar. (Variety)
