Ben Affleck rocks the 70's vibe in new trailer for Argo

Ben Affleck in the Argo Trailer

After the success of THE TOWN I’ve been eagerly awaiting Ben Affleck’s next directing project, and so far I’m not disappointed in what I’ve seen. The next film helmed by Ben Affleck is the political thriller ARGO, in which Ben Affleck not only directs but stars in. I don’t know what else to say except that I smell an Academy Award nomination for Mr. Affleck in the near future. I’ll be the first to say that I thought Ben Affleck’s buddy Matt Damon would be the first of the duo to win another Oscar, but I think (and hope) Affleck snags another one sooner rather than later. Ben Affleck certainly deserves it after THE TOWN and ARGO looks just as good if not better.

ARGO is based on a true story about a CIA team that leads an undercover operation to rescue six American hostages being held in Iran. In order to free the Americans, the CIA poses as filmmakers who are making a sci-fi film in order to get close to the kidnappers. Doesn’t that sound pretty awesome? Along with Ben Affleck, ARGO will also star: Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Taylor Schilling, Kyle Chandler and Tate Donovan.  The film is due to hit theaters on September 14th, 2012.

This would be a great story in and of itself, but the fact that it’s based on true events is even better. The trailer looks great and the awful 70’s hair and wardrobe don’t even curb my excitement (well maybe a little, that was a rough decade). ARGO will probably be another one of those films you will need to see before award season starts, because I can almost guarantee Ben Affleck will be getting all kinds of accolades for his acting and directing. As he should, the guy is on fire these days. Watch the trailer for ARGO below.
