Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel in new images from Total Recall

Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel in Total Recall

When I first heard they were remaking the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger film TOTAL RECALL, I was one of many fans that were miffed. Here was another remake of a classic and popular film that didn’t need to be made. Now after seeing some of the new images and then the trailer, I’m more curious and am actually looking forward to watching this new version with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel. I’m not sure it will be as memorable as the first film, but we’ve come a long way since 1990 so this remake will at least be more spectacular in the special effects and make-up departments. I’ll be curious to see if Colin Farrell makes as big of an impact on me as Arnie did back in the day. One thing’s for sure, Colin Farrell is much more handsome to this writer.

TOTAL RECALL takes place in the distant future where we follow Doug Quaid (Colin Farrell), a man who is depressed with his life and looking for a change. When he stumbles upon a place that specializes in making your dreams come true, Quaid is thrown into a situation where he can’t make out what is real and what is fantasy. There are of course other little subplots, but that’s the gist of the film and if you would like a more in-depth synopsis, then by all means pick up the original film or read the short story from Phillip K. Dick from which this is based on entitled, “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale”.

TOTAL RECALL is being directed by Len Wiseman and will star: Colin Farrell (FRIGHT NIGHT), Kate Beckinsale (UNDERWORLD series), Jessica Biel (NEW YEAR’S EVE), Bill Nighy (LOVE ACTUALLY), John Cho (HAROLD & KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE) and Bryan Cranston (DRIVE). TOTAL RECALL is set to hit theaters on August 3, 2012. (Latino Review)
