Chris Hemsworth set to jump In The Heart Of The Sea
In a few short minutes, Chris Hemsworth impressed audiences as Kirk’s father in STAR TREK, then he went on to carry THOR and CABIN IN THE WOODS to box office success, held his own against A-list talent in THE AVENGERS and was the only redeeming quality in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN. I’d like to think that most people can agree with me that Chris Hemsworth is now officially a movie star. If he hasn’t won you over yet, then you still have a chance as Chris Hemsworth has RUSH on the way with director Ron Howard, the long finished, but still not released RED DAWN remake and of course, THOR 2 and THE AVENGERS 2. Between him and his brother Liam, you’re going to see a lot of Hemsworths in the coming months.
Next up for the God of Thunder is the lead in the adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick’s “In The Heart Of The Sea”, which is based on the true story that inspired the classic “Moby Dick”. The book is about a whaling ship that gets stalked by a large sperm whale. Only 8 members of the crew of 20 survived and after losing their ship and being stranded at sea, the crew turns on each other to stay alive. Chris Hemsworth would play the first mate.
Everything is still in the early stages at this point, but I’m guessing the final film won’t follow the book exactly. Dreamworks is looking to finance the project and I’d venture to say they’ll want this to turn some cash for them. The cannibalism elements of the film could be difficult for audiences to swallow (no pun intended) and I’m not sure anyone wants to see Thor dine on one of his friends. Charles Leavitt (CASTAWAY) wrote the script for the film that doesn’t yet have a director. But with Chris Hemsworth attached, I assume it should move along pretty quickly.
