Johnny Depp's remake of The Thin Man is being pushed back indefinitely by Warner Bros.

Johnny Depp

One of the many projects we’ve heard coming down the pipeline for Johnny Depp was the remake of THE THIN MAN, which follows a cracker-jack detective who marries a rich wife and hangs up his P.I. binoculars to become somewhat of an alcoholic and trophy husband. He still solves crimes, but now it’s funny because he’s a bit tipsy and of course hilarity ensues. So anyway, THE THIN MAN appeared to be going forward with Rob Marshall on board to direct and there were even rumors that the wife role was going to be filled soon (the ladies up for the part included Emily Blunt, Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig). Now it seems that the project has been halted (though it was never really greenlit) and Rob Marshall is moving on to other projects and Johnny Depp wants to take a break between his movies. There’s still a chance THE THIN MAN will move forward in the future, but right now it’s been stopped in its tracks.

Johnny Depp will be seen next in THE LONE RANGER which is suffering its own set of troubles including budget problems and script rewrites. THE LONE RANGER is set to hit theaters on July 3, 2012. (Deadline)
